How do I manage Quick-Text (word expander) entries in the ITC?
Answer / Solution
Manage Quick-Text Entries in the InfraWare Transcription Client
Overview
The Quick Text feature is one of the word expander options available in the InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC). Quick Text is similar to the Auto Text feature in Microsoft Word, and can support long blocks of text. Quick Text shortcuts are triggered by typing the shortcut and pressing F3.
The ITC includes a second word expander option called Quick Type (KB186), and a separate, powerful implementation of normals (KB696). To learn more about the Quick Type and Normals features, please refer to the Knowledgebase (KB) articles.
Steps:
From the ITC Editor, this feature can be accessed from the Tools menu ⇒ Options ⇒ User Settings.
Click the Quick Text tab, or by using the keyboard shortcut Alt + F3
Import From File:
Entries can be retrieved for use with Quick Text in the ITC in 2 ways:
The ITC can retrieve Auto-text entries directly from Word as long as the ITC is installed on the same computer used with the Autocorrect feature in Microsoft Word.
You can also retrieve them from a file, if you have it stored on the same computer, or from an external drive, etc.
To Retrieve the file in the ITC, click Retrieve from File/MS Word, choose the option Retrieve from Word, (if you wish to replace data previously programed in Quick Text , click in the box next to Overwrite Current Text Entries), and then click Retrieve.
Browse to locate the file is stored, and select it, or click on Open. A message of "Restore Successful" will display. Click OK. Your entries will populate.
Note: The ITC will open the file folder typically associated with Word entries. You may navigate to another folder. Please be patient while entries are imported.
Adding Entries:
Document Canvas Editor:
Select (highlight) the expanded text you want to add from the document canvas (where you transcribe the document).
Press Alt + F3 (or choose Insert, Quick Text from the menu).
Type a shortcut abbreviation when prompted, then press OK.
The entry will be added and visible on the Quick Text setup screen.
Quick Text entries are not expanded unless F3 is pressed. A user can type ekg, for example, and choose to leave it in that form rather than expand it to the long version electrocardiogram.
In addition to adding short phrases, the software also supports long blocks of text, including formatting.
In the example below, the shortcut is "aaon". When aaon is entered, and F3 is pressed, the sentence "He/She is awake, alert, in no distress, pleasant, cooperative, well nourished, well hydrated." would appear in the document canvas.
Delete Entries:
Go to the User Settings in the ITC (F10 from the Main Window or Tools ⇒ Options ⇒ User Settings from the document canvas-Editor).
