How can I produce a Consolidated CDA document?

Summary

Through our leadership in the Health Story Project, InfraWare helped develop the Consolidated CDA standards that were made part of Meaningful Use Stage 2 rules.  C-CDA documents contain both narrative and structured data. Stage 2 certified EMRs can receive these documents to populate records as intended.  InfraWare 360 is a documentation platform supporting an ecosystem of physicians and documentation specialists with technology that formats transcribed content for Meaningful Use in the EMR.

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to provide a high-level overview of the components required to produce a C-CDA document.  For more details on Meaningful Use (MU) and Consolidated CDA, please see the following resources.

Overview

Three main components must be setup to produce a C-CDA document using the InfraWare 360 platform:

  1. InfraWare Template Editor (ITE):  Use the ITE Template Wizard to create your template.  This wizard provides additional assistance to InfraWare Administrators to create First Draft, Standard, and Structured Data templates with ease.  For more details on the Template Wizard, see KB414.
  2. InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC):  Information is entered in the Structured Data Entry window, located by using Alt + Ctrl + Shift + E or clicking the EMR icon, as in the below screenshot.

This will open the Structured Data Entry window, where narrative dictation is entered in a structured format which can be consumed as structured data.

Information entered in this manner will populate corresponding Structured Data fields on the template.
  3. InfraWare Document Delivery System (DDS)The document must be formatted for delivery as a CDA document.  (Jobs prepared with structured data as above can also be rendered and delivered as conventional flat documents.)  This is done in the IMC using a Delivery Plan.  Navigate to the IMC ⇒ Delivery tab ⇒ Plans and near the bottom of the screen in the "How should documents be formatted?" section, select CDA.  See KB240 for detailed steps to set up a new Document Delivery Plan in the IMC.
