Editing exercises designed to introduce medical transcriptionists to the fundamentals of editing are available from the platform to be worked in the ITC. There are two types of exercises. Training tasks are designed to instruct an MT on how to use various essential editing keystrokes effectively. Practice Jobs are designed to let an MT put these skills to the test in a "real-life" non-production First Draft job.
The InfraWare Transcription Client (ITC) gives a transcriptionist the ability to access editing exercises, which are designed to introduce MTs to the fundamentals of editing using InfraWare's First Draft back-end speech recognition software.
Overview
There are two types of exercises:
Training Tasks are designed to instruct an MT on how to use various essential editing keystrokes effectively.
Practice Jobs are designed to let an MT put these skills to the test in a "real-life" non-production First Draft job.
Training Tasks:
Training Tasks are a great place to start for someone new to editing, as well as experienced editors who would like to improve their editing habits. Each training task focuses on a specific skill. The MT will be given details about each practice step, and instructions for implementing that skill.
Steps:
Log in to the ITC using your email address and password provided by your Administrator.
You can access this feature from the ITC Main Window.
From the ITC Main Window this feature can be accessed from the Actions menu by choosing "Search for Jobs", or with the Keyboard Shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + S).
In the Search window, click in the box next to "Training Tasks" listed in the First Draft Training group.
Select the Search button, or with the Keyboard Shortcut (Alt + S).
Press Enter to download the highlighted training task job, starting with Task #1 first, then #2 and so forth.
Follow the directions in each lesson, and don't forget to adjust your ITC User Settings per the instructions.
You can close the Training Tasks by clicking in the X in the upper right-hand corner or go to File and then select Close
Practice Jobs:
Practice jobs are a great place for a new editor to put their skills to the test, or for an experienced editor to get familiarized with First Draft and gain experience editing in the ITC. Practice jobs focus on the full editing picture and the skills learned in the training tasks. The goal with the practice jobs is for the MT to learn how to edit jobs as effectively as possible. Practice jobs are timed, and the keystrokes are closely monitored.
Steps
Log in to the ITC using your email address and password provided by your Administrator.
You can access this feature from the ITC Main Window.
From the ITC Main Window this feature can be accessed from the Actions menu by choosing "Search for Jobs", or with the Keyboard Shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + S).
In the Search window, click in the box next to "Practice Jobs" listed in the First Draft Training group.
Select the Search button, or with the Keyboard Shortcut (Alt + S).
When the job opens you will be presented with a message about how to complete the practice job. Press Enter or click Begin to start.
Once you have finished editing the practice document use Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl + Shift + S to complete the practice job. You may also click the Grade button in the function panel. Note: If the function panel is hidden you will not see the Grade button.
When the editor is finished with the job, they can mark it complete, or click the grade button to stop the clock and have their work evaluated. A QA score is displayed, and errors are highlighted in the document based on what the completed job should look like.

An editor can also see how many keystrokes they used, and compare that to an ideal usage set. The ideal set was created by a tester who was trying to edit the job in as few keystrokes as possible. It’s possible to edit the job in fewer keystrokes (especially if audio sync is used) and using more keystrokes will cause the editors keystroke grade to go down.

Completed results (which include time taken, QA Score and keystrokes used) are sent up to the platform and are visible to administrators in the First Draft Practice Jobs Report. For more information on that report, please seeKB657 .
These practice jobs are based on an example of the ideal editing experience following the best practices for editing and do not follow any account specific instructions. Example: Exam versus Examination or rearranging the order of dictated headings are considered over editing. In an ideal scenario you would not need to change the order of headings on the template or modify the headings. That being said, Account Instructions always take precedence over the best practices with regard to over editing.
Training Tasks and Practice Jobs are always available for everyone in the ITC. Complete them as many times as you like!
