Best Practices for Advanced Features in the InfraWare Template Editor (ITE)

Overview

The InfraWare Template Editor (ITE) is a very powerful tool. With a little time invested, this tool can allow you to create professional documents. This KB article will give best practices for how to utilize the ITE to create advanced output in your documents.

Vertical Letterhead Components

Many facilities will utilize vertical letterhead components in their documents on both the left or right sides of the document. The best practice for setting up a vertical letterhead is through the use of an image. The following steps will describe how to set up a vertical letterhead.

  • Obtain your image - If you currently have a Word document with the vertical template you want to utilize, you can simply perform a screen grab with a screen grab tool in order to obtain your image. The ITE supports the following image types: BMP, TIF, WMF, PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF.
  • Insert your image - In the ITE, go to Insert --> Image. When you receive the Open dialog screen, click to where you have stored your image and press open.
  • Now that you have your image in the template, you can edit the properties to move it to a different spot. Click the image to ensure that you see the handles around the image.
  • Click Format --> Image. The following KB article will give you an overview on the uses of the various Image Attributes:  KB569
  • Click the Square option (notice that it opens up the features below in the window)
  • Choose Fixed Position on Page (this will tell the ITE to put the image in one particular spot and to not push it around with text)
  • Horizontal Alignment - This tells where the image should be placed on the document. You can choose left side, center side right side or can create a custom position on the page.
  • Press OK and your image will be placed in the chosen spot. If you decide you need to move the image again, just click the highlight and choose Format --> Image again.

Please note: When utilizing the Fixed Position on Page setting (see step 6 above), the images will not print out in the Word versions of the final document. They will only print out using the PDF version or printing via the Online Editor Print.

Vertical and Horizontal Bars

At times, a facility will have a template that requires a vertical or horizontal bar. These bars are typically utilized to separate areas on the document such as a Header or sections of text. The best practice for placing a bar into the ITE is through the use of an image of the bar.  There are several methods of obtaining an image of the bar. One of the easiest methods is through the use of Windows Paint. The following steps will give you an overview on how to obtain this image:

  • Open up a new Windows Paint Document.
  • In the toolbar in the left side of the Paint window, choose the "Line" option
  • You will notice that a section opens up on the bottom of the toolbar that allows you to choose the width of the line you want to utilize.
  • Choose the appropriate Width.
  • Next click your left mouse button and hold as you drag your mouse across the paint window. When you have the line at the width you desire, release the mouse button.
  • Next choose File - Save and enter the name of your image.
  • Next go into the ITE and perform an Insert --> Image and choose your image.
  • You can select your image and drag it wider if needed.
  • You can find a few versions of horizontal and vertical bars as an attachment at the bottom of this article. These images can be inserted into the ITE and then you can change the width for your needs.

 Check Boxes

Some templates will require the use of check-boxes to be displayed on the final document. The ITE makes use of the Wingdings font type to obtain these check boxes. The following steps will allow you to create text boxes on a template in the ITE:

  • Place your cursor in the spot where you would like to place the checkbox
  • Change your font type to Wingdings.
  • Hold down your Alt key. While holding Alt type 0168 in the number keypad on your keyboard
  • Release your Alt key and you will see a box show up.
  • You can highlight the box and alter the font size to make a larger or smaller box.
  • You can then place the cursor on the right side of the box.
  • Hold down your Alt Key and key in 0254 or 0253 and release the Alt
  • This will insert a checked box (0254 will be a check mark while 0253 will be an X in the box)
  • When your MT is working the document, they can highlight either the checked or unchecked box and press delete. This will give you the desired choice for the document.
