What are the First Draft fields I can add to a template?

Answer / Solution

First Draft Fields Explained

Overview

First Draft Fields in a template refer to the Initial First Draft Output field as well as any First Draft Regions or First Draft Areas on a template.  In order for a template to be considered ready for First Draft and enabled, it must contain one or more First Draft field.

Summary

There are three types of First Draft Fields:

  • Initial First Draft Field:  The Initial First Draft Output field (which appears on the template as {FirstDraftField} for brevity), is where all of the recognized text will be output before the first heading is detected or if no heading is detected.  If the first heading is detected prior to the maximum prelude length cutoff, then this text will be eliminated and the field will disappear.  See KB546 for more information about the prelude.  Therefore, the Initial FD Field is only added once to a template.
    • This field can be added like any other by navigating to Insert Document Fields → First Draft → Initial First Draft Region.

  • First Draft Region:  This field code is placed after each heading or subheading in the template (i.e. Chief Complaint, Physical Exam, History, etc.)
    • This field can be added with keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + Shift + R" or from the Insert Menu → First Draft → First Draft Region
  • First Draft Area:  This field code is placed on the template and can accommodate one or more headings/subheadings, formatting of those headings/subheadings and following text, phrases, and other options.  See KB778 for more details.
    • This field can be added with keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + Shift + A" or from the Insert Menu → Document Fields → First Draft → First Draft Area
