Pedals/button Control Customization for the IDC

 Summary

The IDC provides the ability to customize behavior of the application for certain supported pedals and handheld microphone buttons.  These include compatible USB plug-n-play Transcription and Dictation Pedals and the Olympus DR-1000.  See Knowledge Base article #253 for more information on how to record a dictation directly into the IDC.

Define pedal and button actions in your IDC user settings

Tasks:

• Login to the IDC using your username and password. 
• Click the User Settings Button

• Click the Recorder Sub-tab

Basic Section 

• Choose the Default Editing Behavior:   Insert or Overwrite
• Display wave form when reviewing and recording:  Place a checkmark if you would like to display the wave form while dictating. 
• Use automatic gain control:  
  • Place a checkmark to turn this feature on:  IDC will automatically detect the gain on the microphone depending on how loud it detects the input is
    • (i.e. if you are whispering into the mic, automatic gain control would turn up the mic sensitivity to try to get a better recording and if you are shouting into the mic, the IDC will turn down the sensitivity.
  • Unchecked:  The IDC will not change the gain on the mic as described above.  The gain can also be manually adjusted using standard Windows settings
• Select the Fast Fwd/Rew Speech from the drop-down

Pedals Section

• Select the type of device you are using with the IDC: Dictation pedal/Transcription pedal/Olympus DR-1000/Phillips Speechmike Pro
  

• Select how you would like the buttons to respond in the IDC.  For Example for Transcription Pedals an action can be chosen for pressing and releasing each of the three buttons (Rewind, Play, and Fast Forward buttons).
• For each press and release of each button, you have the following choices:
  • Start Recording
  • Stop Recording
  • Start Rewind
  • Stop Rewind
  • Start Playback
  • Stop Playback
  • Start Fast Forward
  • Stop Fast Forward
  • Do Nothing
  • New Dictation
  • Save and Close
  • Send
  • Toggle STAT
• All actions except "Send" work on the recording page.  "New Dictation," "Save and Close" and "Send" work on the main page
• For example in the settings below, while you are on the Recording Page, when you tap the Fast Fwd Button, you can begin a New Dictation and when you then immediately release the Fast Fwd button, the previous dictation will automatically send to the platform.

If you are using the Olympus DR-1000 microphone system, the following buttons are enabled and can be assigned to any of the above choices.

If you are using the Phillips Speechmike Pro microphone system, the following buttons are enabled and can be assigned to any of the above choices.

• When you are satisfied with your settings, click Save.   

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR SPEECHMIKE USERS:  We recommend that when using the SpeechMike you still set the output device to your computer speakers instead of the SpeechMike itself.  This should ensure the smoothest experience and will avoid some of the intermittent problems we saw while testing where programs on the computer try to utilize the SpeechMike as a full duplex device instead of a half duplex.

To set your output device to the computer speakers with the Phillips Speechmike plugged in, right click on the Speaker Icon in your system tray (by the clock).  Click on Playback Devices and select your computer speakers.
