IDC User Settings Explained

Overview & Solution

The InfraWare Dictation Client (IDC) User Settings are accessed from the IDC main window by selecting Settings, User Settings.  The settings are broken into the following sections:

Document Type

Each user should be set to have a default Document Type.  Document Types in the InfraWare 360 platform are comparable to work types in legacy systems.  Each time a new dictation is created, it will default to this value.  This minimizes the number of times a user will need to change or set the Document Type.  Document Types are explained in detail here.

Dictation Retrieval

When browsing for new dictations to retrieve, the browse window will start in the location specified under Default Starting Folder.  Auto Retrieval is an optional feature that scans for a handheld or other device to be connected.  When a certain drive letter and folder are detected, the IDC will automatically pull those jobs.  The Olympus DS2 device has a special version of this feature.

Program Behavior

Many users like to prevent their IDC window from becoming cluttered with old jobs.  You can use Delete Completed Dictations feature to automatically keep your IDC main window clean.  (Keep in mind that the job number returned when a dictation is sent can be a good tool for reconciling your dictations with transcribed reports.)  Show Activity enables or disables the animation during server communication.  Auto Save recordings is recommended and is only for PC dictations.

First Draft (Back-end Speech Recognition)

InfraWare's optional back-end speech recognition service is called First Draft.  An author must be enrolled in the First Draft service for speech recognition to work.  Administrators then enable them in the IMC.
